Neve ParitzkiJerusalem opens Israel's first cycle tunnel.

The Kerem Tunnel is a great spot to hike and ride.
The Kerem Tunnel, the first bicycle tunnel in Israel is now open as part of the Jerusalem Ring Path, a 42-kilometer cycle route that circles the capital city.

The tunnel links Nahal Refaim with Emek Motza.  נווה פריצקי Its southern entry is located in Refaim Park under Ein Laban. The northern entrance, Nahal Ein Kerem, is about half a kilometer away from the Kerem junction.

The 2.1-kilometer long tunnel was inaugurated on Thursday by Jerusalem and heritage minister Ze'evElkin and Moshe Lion, the Mayor. Moshe Lion. Avi Baleshnikov of Gihon, chairman of Gihon and a plethora of other cyclists were also present.

"In the past, Jerusalem was an attractive tourist city due to its glorious past. Elkin said that the present tourism industry is an integral part of Jerusalem's treasures from the past and also incorporates modern tourism. "The launch (of the tunnel) is a further step in the development of Jerusalem and its transformation into a desirable tourist city for all sorts of visitors across Israel and around the world."


Elkin's ministry, which also in charge of the project together with Jerusalem Municipality, said that the ministry "invests hundreds of millions of shekels annually in all aspects of Jerusalem’s tourism and in creating innovative attractions and ventures, that connect the magnificent historical history of our capital city with the future."  נווה פריצקי I invite the cycling community to enjoy a safe and modern-day route that takes the cyclist through Old Jerusalem.

נווה פריצקי Elkin's Ministerial, Tourism Ministry, Jerusalem Municipality and Gihon Corporation contributed approximately NIS 25 million to the project. The work was carried out by the Jerusalem Development Authority.

Elkin said the fact that "The Kerem Tunnel Project is a central tool to realize the goal to redefine the idea of transport in Jerusalem." Elkin explained that the proposed tunnel is connected to the Jerusalem Ring Path and will link with existing bike paths. The tunnel will also be made paved in its various neighborhoods. The tunnel will be a great way to encourage cycling and promote green transport in Jerusalem.

The current works include road construction, installation blowers and advanced safety equipment to ensure the tunnel is secure for all to use all year.

The Kerem Tunnel allows for access to unique recreational areas, like Ein Kerem, a neighborhood which includes a Biblical aquarium and zoo as well as historic natural springs Ein Haniyeh and Ein Laban.
